Lionel Messi ‘not going to retire’ as Argentina icon lifts FIFA World Cup

Lionel Messi brought home the FIFA World Cup for the first time since 1986

Football icon Lionel Messi, who led Argentina to victory on Sunday against France as FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 champions, said that he will continue to play for the country.
“No, I’m not going to retiring from the Argentina national team,” Messi reportedly told TyC Sports, as quoted by Goal.com, adding that “I want to continue playing as a champion.”

Messi also said that he felt he would win the tournament this year, and was awarded the Golden Ball, an honour given to the best player of a FIFA World Cup.

This was Argentina’s third World Cup, and its first since 1986.

The football star also took it to Instagram to express his honour and gratitude.

“CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD!!!!!!! ?? So many times I dreamed it, so much I wanted it that I still don’t fall, I can’t believe it…… Thank you so much to my family, to all who support me and also to all who believed in us. We prove once again that Argentinians when we fight together and united we are able to achieve what we aim. The merit is of this group, which is above individuals, is the strength of all fighting for the same dream that was also the one of all Argentinians… We did it!!! LET’S GO ARGENTINA DAMN!!!!! ???? We’re seeing each other very soon,” he said.
