02 June 2023, Arabian Business

In a new announcement by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Palm Jebel Ali is set to undergo a massive transformation.

The Palm Jebel Ali project, which will be revived to house over 80 hotels and resorts and add 110 kilometres (68.351 miles) to the emirate’s coastline, will be part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, as per a statement by the office of Sheikh Mohammed.

The Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan outlines a comprehensive strategy for sustainable urban development in Dubai, with a focus on improving people’s well-being and overall quality of life.

The plan aims to solidify Dubai’s position as a global destination for its citizens, residents, and visitors in the next two decades.

It incorporates various existing urban development master plans in the emirate and aligns them with Dubai’s strategic economic priorities and future needs.

The Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan represents the seventh development plan for Dubai since 1960. During this period, Dubai’s population has increased by 80 times, growing from 40,000 in 1960 to 3.3 million in 2020.

The urban and built-up area of the emirate has also expanded significantly, multiplying by 170 times from 3.2 square kilometres.

Developed by real estate giant Nakheel, the Palm Jebel Ali project will be part of the emirate’s ambition to be “the most beautiful city in the world” said Sheikh Mohammed.

In his tweet, Sheikh Mohammed said: “Dubai is growing and thriving. Today, we announce today the new plan for Palm Jebel Ali. Its area is twice that of Palm Jumeirah and its beaches reach 110km.

“Its [Palm Jebel Ali] marine and green pastures will provide housing with the highest quality of life and its visitors and tourists will enjoy more than 80 hotels and resorts that provide beautiful tourist experiences for them and their families.

“We announced our goal to double Dubai’s economy by 2033 and every day we add a new brick in building the most beautiful city in the world”.

Key Features of Palm Jebel Ali
Palm Jebel Ali, which is expected to accommodate over 35,000 families on completion, will offer luxurious beachside living, “a wide choice” of entertainment and leisure facilities – all of which will help contribute majorly to Dubai’s tourism sector.

The remarkable man-made island off the coast of Dubai is a testament to impressive engineering and architectural design. The project has also considered environmental factors, preserving nearby marine habitats.

This will further contribute to Dubai’s tourism sector, offering resorts, hotels, and entertainment facilities on a luxurious scale, and will also create numerous job opportunities, thus boosting the local economy.

The project also aims to create a vibrant and interconnected community, by featuring mixed-use neighbourhoods that encourage walking and offer a range of amenities.

The development will also integrate smart city technologies and sustainable practices to reduce its environmental impact.

In addition, diverse transportation options will be at the core of services for residents, visitors, and local communities.

According to the statement, sustainability will be a key focus of the project, with plans to incorporate renewable energy resources into the infrastructure design.

Once completed, the man-made island is expected to be largely self-sufficient in terms of power generation, with up to 30 percent of its energy coming from renewable sources.

Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, Managing Director of the Investment Corporation of Dubai and Chairman of Nakheel said, “We are honoured to embark on a pathbreaking journey with the new masterplan of Palm Jebel Ali, which is unprecedented in magnitude and scale.

“The megaproject is inspired by the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and will mark a new milestone in the continued growth of the city.

“Palm Jebel Ali will capture the spirit, energy and life of Dubai as a thriving, prosperous and sustainable waterfront community and a world class lifestyle destination and secure Dubai’s reputation globally as an innovator in waterfront developments, besides creating exceptional value for investors.”
